The hotel holds foundations carried out in the 16th Century, shortly after the Sant Pere Abbey setting up which has been catalogued such a local heritage by the Town Council of Besalú. This preserves its facades, distribution into three floors and the octagonal structure which it is known as the “colomar”, which provides light to the staircase and the first section of the main staircase, as well as the cellars. From the front door to the last bedroom, the hotel is designed to welcome people with or without disabilities. With an electric or normal wheel-chair, any of the rooms can be occupied without the need to alight from them. Some of the rooms have bathrooms designed for disabled people, and instead of baths, they have hydro-massage columns which can be reached by wheelchair. Needless to say, all the bathrooms are adapted; the telephones have call-indicator lights and numbers big enough for people with reduced vision. The signs in the lift are also in Braille, with command buttons at wheelchair height.

The establishment is structured as a typical Catalan fonda (inn) at the end of the 19th Century devoted to changing the carthorses of the carriages. With over one hundred years of service, the Fonda Siqués is a point of reference in the world of inn-keeping in La Garrotxa and in the region of Girona. This privately owned hotel belongs to the Ventura Teixidor family, who have been hoteliers for 6 generations. The first records of the hotel date from 1858, and in 2008 the hotel celebrated 150 years of operation. At first, coachmen slept in the barn on a straw bed. Afterwards, bedrooms where the servants slept were refurbished for the guests. The first guests were schoolteachers who needed some place to sleep and eat. Other guests were also musicians who came for the festivals - Sant Vicenç, a small festival, or Sant Prim i Felicià, the main festival. Most of the bedrooms have been refurbished over the last years and include bathrooms and heating. The last refurbishment was in July 1995 and currently the hotel offers 5 single rooms and 22 double rooms, all of them equipped with bathroom, heating, telephone and TV, some with air-conditioning. The Fonda Siqués has an open-air car park for customers of the hotel and restaurant, very near to the historic town centre and the Roman bridge at the foot of the road, up to twenty vehicles.
