The wine is in Catalonia a long cultural tradition remains a historic wine region with its own particular characteristics.

The sector is regulated by the Catalan Institute of Vineyard and Wine.

The subsection of the wine and derivatives occupies the fourth place inside the Catalan food and agriculture sector and represents 25 % of the production of Spain.

The annual production is more than 380 million bottles, of which about two thirds are destined for export.

Approximately half of the production is wine and the other half is cava.( sparkling wine or Champagne)

The cultivation of the vineyard in Catalonia concentrates especially on the pre coastal regions, between the Pre coastal Mountain range and the Pre coastal Depression, with the exception of the most humid oriental part (axis of the Montnegre, Montseny, the Guilleries and Puigmal).

In addition, it is cultivated in the plains of less altitude of the Central Depression (la Plana de Lerida and the Plana of the Bages)

In Catalonia there are 11 denominations of origin, all of them with a long tradition in the wine production, excepting the D.O. Catalunya of more recent creation, and that spreads over the whole Autonomous region.

The Catalan vineyard represents more than 70,000 hectares, through their different denominations of origin, offers us a variety of red, white, and rosé wines.
